When Jane Campion was honored onstage at the Cannes Film Festival with about 30 other major directors Sunday, she was the lone woman of the bunch. And she's still not used to how strange that feels.

I also find myself wondering about female directors who made one or two fantastic films and then disappeared from sight eg Allison Anders, who directed the wonderful
Gas food lodging .
According to Wikipedia she's still working, but no film since 2001.
